Foiled Plans....

We are sad to report that the flu and fever has attacked the MiTcx team....and has foiled our plans of dominating the mens 50+ Cyclocross National Championships today. (ok ok...maybe we weren't going to dominate, but we were at least gonna frickin' compete). If bruce could stay vertical right now, he would be suiting up. Gave brother B Willis a call to see if he wanted to sub, but we got a firm 'no, are you nutz'.

so...we will not be competing in today's race. Bruce is bummin' and mark is just thankful that he won't have to fight with anyone in the pits.

Thank you for following this adventure! See you out in the mud soon. hup hup.

Cyclocross Nationals - update

The B Team for MiTCX arrived in Madison around noon and went straight to the Verona Wi race site at Badger Prairie Reserve.  1-2 feet of snow still on the ground here and it was snowy, icy, muddy, slippery...  And once we made it from the parking lot, the frozen tundra of the course was treacherous.  We watched a couple of heats of the non-championship races made up of mostly age group racers wanting to test the track and equipment.  We decided to keep our powder dry, bikes clean and the old fart toasty warm.  He has a new pair of shoes replacing the 15 yr old Nikes with spikes the size of badger fangs.  So we are hoping for some additional bad weather to spice things up.
Looks as tho we are seeded in 57th position (out of 58).  With 2 CX races to his credit and neither recognized by USCycling and Doping as anything more than a group mud ride, we start dead last.  So we are thinkin the draft will be good and it will be fun to watch people going into the bales of hay. Also shouldn't get lost.
3 pm Michigan time is the start.  Twitter updates on @momsintowcx will be pulling data off other sites along with #cxnats or Oprah.com

We are headed for dinner at Sammy Sosa's Steak House in Madison.  Wearing something red.

Goals for Tomorrow
1. Finish at least a position lower than bruces age
2. Finish vertical
3. Finish before dark
4. Finish dirty
5. Make PitBoss work like a dog

MITcx Heads to Nationals

Nope...it's not brad heading to Nationals (he is currently at UHC Team Training camp in Scottsdale, AZ). We've signed on Bruce Willis...i mean Los... to hit the road (snow and mud) to Madison this week! Bruce is accompanied by director sportif and chief pit crew, Mark E. Los. Mark will be the secret weapon to success tomorrow as the conditions are looking like mud mud and more mud. (thank goodness we've gotten that wife of brad's out of the pits!).

mark (and bruce) will be providing updates on this site and also over at our twitter: https://twitter.com/MomsinTowCX

The mens masters race will be tomorrow (Thursday) 3pm Eastern Time.

Kick some arssss!

When Sponsors Race

IMG_7074.JPG

Three of the sponsors of Moms in Tow Cyclocross took on a cross race themselves this weekend at Plaster Creek in Grand Rapids, MI as part of the Kisscross series. Two out of the three of them had never raced a cross race in their lives. The one thing they did have in common was pit experience. Rocking the Endo Custom Clothing, Van Dessel bikes, Velocity Wheels, and Challenge Tires they all went on to slaughter the course and the competition. A couple will be upgrading to new categories already and looking to possibly flirt with the best in the world come February. This was a bit of test event for next weekends final Kisscross race in Holland, MI which is the hometown of the Moms in Tow HQ and service course. Come out to cheer or participate next Sunday. The Kidscross course will be set up as well for all the kids to join in the fun.

Louisville USGPCX. Derby City Cup

The team arrived just in time yesterday afternoon to get BDub out on the course for recon and a few hot laps.  Beautiful course and location along the Ohio River in downtown LuVille.  Same location as the Ironman and Wheelman. VP Mark was so moved being here, he signed up for next year...  We are all so proud of him!

After checking into our host Holiday Inn, we headed downtown to pick up race stuff and build alliances with pit support .  No jet washers or dryers needed today.  72 and Sunny!

Lots of great stuff here in Louisville....in addition to home of the 2013 World CX Championships this is bourbon world central, home to the other Lance (burton) and we are racing today in the Floyd's Fork Flood Plain. Near the car wash. Down by the river. All of the big boys are here...Chris, Danny and alex looked really ready and Professor TJ was holding class with his underlings.

Headed to the course shortly.  More to come.  Dan is giving BW a pep talk right now (and another cupcake).

Cincy3 Day 2 - The IcemanCX Saturday Nite Special

A defining race for Moms in Tow CX and our hero, Brad White.

As a sponsor, we could not be more proud of the Team's performance last night.  30 degrees with rain and sleet.  The toughest course that we have seen all season.  A top roster of competitors including Trebon, Berden, Livermon, jones and Driscoll.  The first race of the season where we have no experienced help in the pits (Brads wife, Jenny working Pitboss).  And the big budget teams are swapping out clean bikes 2x per lap to keep their men on fast, lubed steeds.

Never complain, never explain Brad White did his patented brand of trash talking...  not saying a word coming out of the 18th hole with the Van Dessel loaded with Challenge skins he pounded a hole shot and moved into the top 8.  With the noise of team Goliath's pressure washers blasting in the background, He picked his way through the field into battles with Livermon and others while the ice and mud continued to sculpt lbs to his bike.

His Pitcrew did whatever it took to keep him rolling...options were few after the third lap and brad came into the pit with a broken shifter and brake, SRAM called it 'totally unsalvageable'. Having only one bike to spare, Jenny found a quick loaner bike from a rider and it appeared that it was our lucky day.  While it would have nice to have borrowed Spartacus' battery powered wunderbike we were happy to settle for anything ridable.  The Good Samaritan was 5'10", 32" inseam, monkeyarms (good reach like BDub) and it would have been perfect if he had been riding Shimano XTRs instead of Cranky Bros Eggwhite Beaters.  It also might have been a better deal for us if that fact would have been ascertained prior to kissing his wife goodbye and exiting the pits to reenter FrozenMudWorld.  Jenny did save the day by getting enough time while Brad ran a half lap to get his last good bike (with aforementioned Shim XTRs) really clean.  That super clean VanDessel had to last him 6 laps and he was now back to 7th with a grumpy disposition. The PitBosses plan to get our hero in a spot where he had to put the hammer down to save Momma was brilliant.  In the end he shut down Livermon and was carving huge chucks of time out of JD (who got lots of clean bikes in that stretch).

The most fun about watching the Internet coverage was again listening to the announcers fumble through their notes to identify Brad and never made the connection that he was an Ohio boy coming home to play in the mud.  Our man is a Mudder.  The worst the conditions, the better.

A race with brutal conditions like this brings out the best and worst in racers and teams...  Big money teams have pressure washers and wells.  The rest fight for a couple of community power washers that create a scrum of hoses and emotions.  We benefited from racers and teams helping us out.  We really appreciate that and will continue to do the same for others.  It is a bike race in the mud!

After spinning down, eating and cleaning up his equipment, BDub hit the rack to prep for todays finale at 4pm.  Cant wait to line em up later today.  Run what you brung and hope you brung enuff.  We did!

And then drive back to Michigan with the crew.

Livin the Pro CX dream.  Great job Brad!

thanks mom

Cincy3 Day 1

Fun race today at Cincy3! BW ended up 5th over-all. It was a great race...not too exciting for first though, Ryan Trebon was on FIRE today and finished a day ahead of everyone else. Seriously, give that boy some roast beef or something to fatten him up and slow him down a little.  He is sporting the Andy Schleck seat post extension kit (thanks to www.theprosstuff.com).  Sounds like Trombone may be scoring some additional Schleckwear for the cold weather coming as Andy starts career in modeling or Reality Show with Frank?

Brad spent the majority of the race in a group just behind Trebon....2nd-6th place. The group split apart and brad ended up 5th. Great finish! Ready to hit it again tomorrow.  Our pit crew is dialed in for Day 2 and ready to race under the lights before falling back an hour.  i'm sure M&M will welcome the extra hour of sleep!

Another good effort coming today.  Thanks to all of our GREAT sponsors.  The epic 6 week Moms in Tow CX roadtrip is nearing the end.  Will update you on total miles traveled soon.  Should have had the Honda Oddity as a sponsor!

Thanks Mom!

Colorado Cross Classic

Fun day out at the Boulder Res today! Quite the Moms in Tow CX fan club! wowzers. Thanks to all you guys for coming out!

The UCI points are now reset so Brad has a higher start position, sweet. Brad had a good start and was on Ryan Trebon's wheel, in 5th place, for the first couple laps. A small group caught up to brad and he ended up 9th over all...great finish.

Excited about the race tomorrow. The Boulder Cup will be LIVE on-line! Brad races at 3:50... live here: www.cyclingdirt.org It's gonna be a great race. Fun course...sweet venue.
